Wait a minute!  The Tribe.net ain't done yet!

First we had to get out there, work out some bugs, get clustering going, bring out some more features.  THEN we'll evolve the UI, bring RSS into the world of social networking and pump up the Listimgs service.

THEN we'll bring in unprecendented levels of customization and personalization.  I didn't study this shit for 12 years for no reason!!$%#!%$#!%!%#  I call it Multimedia Personalization.  No more "One Size Fits all!"

The Tribe.net has just started.  We ain't stopping here!

Here's the post that prompted this outburst.  I love the funkiness of Ryze, but it's time to move on.  Ever heard of D HTML, video or audio?

BTW I am a paid consultant of Tribe.net.

YASNSes and Brand. Stuart Henshall takes on the question of brand for social networks services,

Ryze's inelegance is part of it's brand strength. Ryze was clearly created by human hands, the journey of a special person. Its useablity inelegant. Still at Ryze I feel like I own my own page. Ryze's pages often have a chaotic appeal that Tribe in it's current format will never achieve. At Tribe I'm part of a database...
Like danah, he notes that as they have gotten more professional, they increasingly become places where "...play, chaos, individuality, is in my view too restrictive."

We've been down this road before, where the tension between designed order and organic order gives the hosting organization fits, from Apple's disastrous eWorld experiment through the Fakester genocide. I wonder if we'll grope towards an answer or a small class of answers, or if the tension between design and communal growth is fundamental and permanent. [Corante: Social Software]

New Sidekick features, just in the nick of time. The Sidekick turns a year old this month, and for a lot of us early adopters who bought in at full retail on the (dashed) hopes that T-Mobile would make good on Danger's promise to deliver an open platform (like the Symbian phones from Sony-Ericsson, which anyone can write code for, and which, conseuqently, have a really robust software ecosystem percolating under them), that means that this is the month that we can get rid of our Sidekicks and buy something else. For those of us who were so turned off by the outrageous voice-plan offered by T-Mobile on these devices that we kept our old handsets and used these as handheld Internet terminals, there's precious little reason not to: the carriers are subsidising Symbian phones if you buy into a one-year plan, and who needs number-portability when you haven't given anyone the number?

Coincidentally (?), this month, Danger has announced a bunch of really hot (and long overdue) enhancements to the device, including such basic functionality as copy-and-paste. I may hold onto the Sidekick for a couple months longer -- at least until Novmember 28th rolls around and we get fee-crashing number-portability for cellphones.

The new features include:

* Copy and paste (party like it's 1982!)

* Download manager (with ringtones! Party like it's 1998!)

* More AIM features

* "Usability features" Link (Thanks, Mike!) [Boing Boing Blog]

Coolio - now I can go back to Chris D via Tribe.net and find out the 411.

Hey!  What happened to BoingBoing's comments?

SkypeThis is all you need to know:

Skype has surpassed 110,000 downloads with over 6,500 users online simultaneously in just 12 days.

:-)

Check it out.  P2P VoIP.  Credit goes to Stuart Henshall for the pointer.

Though his blog doesn't appear to have XML or permalinks Craig Newmark's blog does have 'promise'.  The first post I read is about Deanlink.  I'd prefer it if he called is Deanster.  The ranking of the Top Deanlinkers - is perfect!

Here's the post.....

Hey, the Howard Dean people keep getting smarter and smarter, regarding their use of the Internet.

I just heard about deanlink which is a friendster-like service which connects Dean supporters with each other.

Particularly clever is their list of their most connected Dean supporters.

Please remember that while I'm not endorsing Dean, I really want to encourage people to use the Internet like this, since I feel that this really does help rejuvenate American democracy. My gut tells me this can really change things. [Craig Blog]

Craig Newmark Has Started A Blog!. I'm sure his blog will be as great as he is!... [On Lisa Rein's Radar]

Noah Glass uses voices left on audblogs and lays it on top of CC music - and creates Audblog Radio.  This is #2.
