 Anil Dash | ENT 1.0 | RSS 1.0 | RSS 2.0 | RVW

Anil Dash shows how to integrate the UpComing.org Calendar Events RSS feed into MoveableType.

using upcoming RSS feeds in MT. just for my own future reference [anil dash's daily links]

What I'd also like to see is Anil integrate Alf Eaton's RVW reviews feed and Matt and Paolo's ENT topics.  Both of these format/standards inside of MT would be very cool.  Anil?

Congrats to Dave Sifry!  Every :15 or less, 1M blogs are searched.

One Million Weblogs Tracked. Today is an auspicious day, Technorati is now tracking over one million weblogs. We hit 100,000 back on March 5, and 200,000 on April 6nbsp; We hit the 400,000 mark on June 21. Technorati is currently tracking about 7,000 new weblogs per day, which means that a new weblog is being created approximately every 12 seconds. And I know we're not catching them all.  [Sifry's Alerts]

Now it's time to do something with these blogs!  By provding access to the Technorati database via open APIs Dave Sifry has enabled a whole category of web services!  We plan on accessing and using this database in more ways than one!  And the fact that every Technorati member automatically gets a FOAF file, makes it even better!

 Apple | blogging | FOAF | iLife | iSync | Social networks | TypePad

In the world of feature battles - Apple has always proved it can copy with the best of them.  So my only question is "where's iCommunity?" and will it be FOAF compatible?

.Mac benefits.

I've been wondering whether or not to renew my .Mac membership, and I have to say that Apple seems to be working on making it worth the $99/year. The latest new benefits: free VersionTracker Plus subscription, free iBlog software, and $30 off a FireWire drive. And that's in addition to the free StickyBrain 2, Solitare, and Marble Blast that they've had for a few weeks.

Now that it's free, I should probably check out iBlog at some point. [Backup Brain]

Apple's iBlog tool is a trhee pane plus calendar format - desigend to work with Mac OS X.  It's a hosted blogging environment, just like TypePad or Blogger.

Since they now have a blogging tool, I am predicting it is just a matter of time until .Mac will also be a social networking environment - as well.

And I predict it'll be called iCommunity. You heard it here first.

craigslist documentary

Hey, you might have read that Zealot Pictures, an independent film maker in SF, is doing a documentary 24 hours on craigslist.

It's moving ahead nicely, all filming done, and they're working hard on editing the film. The SF Chronicle had a good article on Sundance and local film companies last week, which discusses this. A sample reel will be submitted to the Sundance film festival, and there's a good chance it'll be accepted. The possibility of my visting seems pretty surreal...

... but for even better and improved surrealism, well, at my local cafe, Reverie, I met some Australian filmmakers doing a documentary on Asperger's Syndrome, courtesy of Steve Silberman from Wired. Well, this resulted in my doing a little interview on how being a (recovering) nerd relates to this. The filming was done during a haircut yesterday, which is the most surreal activity so far for me. They didn't have much time to work, consider how much hair I have. Thanks to Tina for her patience!  [craigblog]

Crais Newmark has a true brand.  He also helped in the lawsuit the EFF did against the movie studios - trying to protect RePlay's right to Skip Commercials and Send Show to Friends features.

Needless to say RePlay was sold, the new owner took out the features and we're still waiting to see what happens with the lawsuit Craig and the EFF have against Hollywood.

 Atom | Dave Winer | Echo | Events | London | RDF | RSS 1.0 | RSS 2.0

An RSS feed of art exhibitions in London today.

Yes, events! Unfortunately there's no RDF add-ons to make it more machine-readable, but it's pointing in the right direction.

From Chris Heathcote, who also has RSS weather feeds.

I can see where this gets confusing. The RDF folks keep calling their RSS 1.0 feed RSS.  Dave Winer is upset that they use a term that refers to a subscription format he spent allot of time on - RSS 2.0.  And while he was in the hospital, an RDF based subscription format RSS 1.0 - gets named RSS too!

So which RSS is RSS?  Well most aggregators read both - so the only confusion is with us insiders.  I sure hope they come up with a final name for Echo-Atom-PIE and get on with it.  At least these RDF folks understand why they need to have something specific for events.

I just wish Dave would jump on board and help us fabricate an RSS 2.0 format for events.

Fresh Start

Happy 5764!

We Jews get to throw away our sins today. We have to ask forgiveness of those we've wronged. (If they don't accept our apology after we've offered it sincerely three times, it's on them.) More important, we have to make amends.

I don't think we can blog away our sins, but if I mistreated you in this blog this past year, I am truly sorry. Let me know and I will try to make it right and will try not to do it again.

BTW, if you're going to start a cult, "To heal the world" wouldn't be such a bad mission. Feel free to use it, but make sure you express it as follows:

Don't think our lawyers won't come after you. And believe you me, we have lawyers. [Joho the Blog]

We got doctors and Hollywood Execs too!  Oey - do we have schmoozers!
