RSS Winterfest 2004. RSS Winterfest is a free two-day Webcast augmented by Socialtext Eventspace on, you guessed it, Internet Syndication and standards like RSS and Atom. We're also presenting alongside some good folks.... [Ross Mayfield's Weblog]

I hate to say this - but this is a rather lopsided collection of folks.....

I'd hate to be Anil at this event - it seems to me it's been loaded up with the 'simple' camp.  By simple I mean - RSS 2.0 which is the XML version of RSS. I wonder if the complex, really hard to understand RSS 1.0 (the rdf version) folks will be properly represented (beyond just Anil.)  And oh yah, all of the sponsors of the event (read: paying for it) are speaking as well.  HHhhhmmmmm.

But one very COOL aspect of this event - is that it appears to completely virtual. I wonder if MeetUp will organzie some meatspace paralell meetings or if others will cluster around machines just to feel social (something tells me Chris Pirillo will.) Maybe I should create a Tribe Tribe.

Anyway I may even show up myself - if for no other reason to celebrate the birth of our new baby - who should be plopping out - right about then.

:-)

John Perry Barlow Starts Blog; Rich and Powerful Tremble. Let's all welcome the excellent John Perry Barlow to the blogosphere...... [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]

Yo yo baby yo,
it's time to start the show
but Jerry's gone,
and Bill G too
so who do we adore?

We got a Joi - yes,
and Typepad to confess,
but now that Barlow's here - oh my,
it's time to eat some pie.

He's witty and he's old,
in fact he stole the show
from young ex-dot commers - he did
he's proven here and yore

That freedom isn't dead,
it's just got out of bed
and as long as you're a farmer here,
it's time to have a beer

So smoking is your vice,
and Jah takes your advice
so I say "Rasta" to you my friend,
as this poem draws to end

So blog away you fool
and don't forget to school,,,,,
,,,these youngsters on the way of life
and what's in store for our wives.

It's women that we need,
not a blog or pile of weed
so I beseech to you and you and you
bring women to this feed

Wal-Mart Sells Songs for 88 Cents. The retail giant rolls out its new online music service, which boasts songs edited to remove offensive lyrics, and a price designed to undercut iTunes and other competitors. [Wired News]

I predicted way back when (like six months ago) that this music download was all about pricing.  Jobs and Apple had set the high mark at 1.00 a song and let's now watch the rpice battles begin.  Mr. Lo-Margin Wal-Mart has started off at .88 - do I hear .77?
